Well, we moved onto summer.. This was the latest we ever skied (out East). Out in California, some areas look well covered still!

You know what is crazy, that the Killington Stage Race was going on and it was hot. I ran into David Taylor and a junior cyclist on Nevada's ski team did well in the men's cat 3. Brought back memories of that suffer-fest. I miss the fitness, though the racing part, glad I did it when I could. Like you. It's melting fast, though so glad to get a LATE May ski day.

It is amazing how much it is still the same. There are some small changes, spiritually the mountain is still the same. Thanks for watching and sharing. It means a ton to us.

@@AlbaAdventures Back then Stowe still had its original single chair which I believe was even older than MRG but taken down in 1986. I remember being there on a very cold day and the lift attendants gave you thick wool blankets. Stowe and MRG were much less different back then. Today only maybe Plattekill in the Catskills has a somewhat similar vibe in the NE. Sugarloaf although being a corporation still has some great skiing. Hopefully MRG stays around forever or whatever that means...

Yes, that snow we had in March till mid April really helped our snow days. Seriously, we really thought this was done early. Feel for you guys considering that it has been two times you visited and the weather didn't cooperate! Next season, if we have a bigger place, maybe you can crash with us.

Thanks Hokkaido. How late does your season go by the way? Also, this was the first time Alicia (my wife) saw this footage... Crazy that this footage is about 29 years ago now. I have to hop on your page and catch up on your soothing edits. Apologize for slacking there. Our season has been trying here. We finally got a big dump Sunday into Monday in Vermont. Sunday it was sticky, Monday apparently was the day to ski, though sadly we had to head back home to NYC Sunday. It has been crazy warm, today again like 70. Thanks for checking this edit out.

@@AlbaAdventures Most of the resorts close at the end of March… I (Steve!) have a pass valid at three resorts… Kamui and Tomamu close then… but Furano is open until the start of May!🤙🙏

Also, this was the first time Alicia saw this footage. I just had it digitized a month or so ago. Almost 29 years ago we filmed this.

@@AlbaAdventures I hope not too. I guess 2016 was considered a "very strong" el nino and this one 2024 is considered "strong" I think. I compared a few of the el nino types to snow at the stake on Mt Mansfield. In 91-92 a "strong" el nino they only got 111 inches. In 2015-16 a very strong el nino they got a 101 inches, but in 97-98 also a "strong or very strong el nino they got 254 inches which sounds better. So hopefully we don't get a bunch of rain. NOAA is forcasting warmer than normal temps through the northeast for the winter.

​@@eedom69 Joe D'Aleo at WeatherBell is my go to long range winter forecaster. He & Joe Bastardi use analogs too, they are coming up with just below avg temps & near avg H2O. As you stated above eedom, no two El Nino winters are the same. But like Ray says in this video "Acceptance.." is the best philosophy & I totally agree. I will ski anything and like it! Thank you Stephen. Day 12 post op. Pretty trying for sure. All I want is a good night's rest now. Irony is that it's not the knee that is hurting it is all the soft tissue and muscles.

Yes, I think our friend Chris Crowley who is in this film is now a member. He grew up skiing there and his house was right at the base of MRG. We stayed there a few times before they sold it, sad when they did.We love MRG! Thanks for watching! I think we know Larry.

Far from it! Plattekill has charm and great fall line. It can get sort of busy - though we can safely say, this is hands down the best skiing in the Catskills. NYSkiBlog turned us on to this mountain many years ago now - we try to make it back a few days every winter.. The glades there - it's really incredible. Seriously, you will love it. Arguably one of our favorite mountains. Hard to think we filmed this just before the pandemic reached NY and released the week into lockdown.

We sat with the kids last night to show them this since they have no real memory of it. They all laughed seeing themselves younger, especially Nevada. The second thing they said was, "look at all that snow" as they saw us all walking down main street. Need to get back there for a solid Winter day. We are going to try to get up there a couple of weekends this Spring again to do some hiking. We are all out of shape here.
